A standing espresso bar is no place for a laptop. The cafés that suit one are the specialty bars, the bookshop cafés and a few brunch places, and the Oltrarno has the most of them, ahead of the Duomo area.
La Cité on Borgo San Frediano, Conventino on Via Giano della Bella, Caffe Le Torri on Borgo San Iacopo and Manly The Office on Via Pisana are all south of the river. In the center, Rivoire, Caffè Condotta and Amblé offer Wi-Fi.
Local tip: For an evening session, La Cité on Borgo San Frediano stays open until midnight, and until 01:00 on Fridays and Saturdays.
Where these cafés are: Oltrarno (4), Duomo & Centro Storico (3), San Lorenzo & San Marco (2), Santa Croce (1).

Specialty bars with room to sit
Manly The Office, opened by Maykol Martino in San Frediano, brews D612 coffee and serves brunch from 08:00 to 15:00, Tuesday to Sunday.3 La Cité, a bookshop café nearby on Borgo San Frediano, takes over in the afternoon, from 14:00.
Laptop seating has a history in the Oltrarno: when Ditta Artigianale opened its Via dello Sprone bar in 2016, the upstairs was designed from the start as a lounge for people staying longer.2
Bookshop cafés
In 2013 the Caffetteria delle Oblate, on the library's terrace near the Duomo, offered free Wi-Fi and drew students and foreign visitors.4 Todo Modo, a bookshop, wine bar and café on Via dei Fossi, is another option: on an ordinary afternoon there is usually space among the shelves for a few hours.1
RED Feltrinelli on Piazza della Repubblica can be loud, and Romeing advises avoiding the lunch rush there.1 SottArno, on Via Maggio, is a quiet vintage-style café serving espresso, fresh orange juice and panini.1
Coworking near San Marco
When a café table is not enough, Sit'N'Breakfast, at Via San Gallo 21r near the Accademia, is a coworking space with internet, power sockets and printers, rented by the hour, day or month.1 On the same street, Gaffe Rosano offers Wi-Fi and opens weekdays 07:30–18:00, and Mò Sì is on Via Nazionale.
Wi-Fi in the center
Rivoire, at Piazza della Signoria 5r, has Wi-Fi as well as its outdoor tables, and Caffè Condotta, at Via della Condotta 46r, is a pastry bar a block away. Amblé, in Piazzetta dei Del Bene, works for an afternoon or evening session from Thursday to Sunday, when it opens at noon and stays open until midnight.
South of the river, Conventino on Via Giano della Bella opens Tuesday to Saturday 09:00–23:00 and Sunday until 22:00, with tables outside, and Caffe Le Torri on Borgo San Iacopo also has vegan options. On the north bank, Rivarno on Lungarno delle Grazie opens from noon Tuesday to Sunday, until 18:00 midweek and 20:00 from Friday.
Laptop etiquette
Order again if you stay for a few hours, and give up the table at lunch if the café serves food. Long stays are a sore point: one central pastry bar began charging €1 per seated customer in 2025, its owner complaining that tables stayed occupied for 45 minutes.5
