Electronics and software firms gave Guadalajara its nickname, the "Silicon Valley" of Mexico. The city is the country's main producer of software and electronic components, telecom and computer equipment made here accounts for about a quarter of Mexico's electronics exports, and IBM, Intel, Oracle and HP Inc. have sites in the city or its suburbs.1

The connections are good by Mexican standards. In the last quarter of 2023, Ookla measured a median fixed-line download of 80.32 Mbps in Guadalajara, the fastest of the country's most populous cities, ahead of Monterrey and Mexico City.2 Colonia Americana has the most cafés with Wi-Fi, followed by the Centro Histórico and Chapalita.

Local tip: For an early start, Elefante Sabio Café in Santa Tere opens at 08:00 every day. Taller de Espresso closes 14:30–15:30 on weekdays, so schedule lunch, not a video call, for that hour.

Where these cafés are: Colonia Americana & Chapultepec (4), Chapalita (2), Centro Histórico (2), Plaza del Sol & the south (1), Santa Tere & Ladrón de Guevara (1), Providencia (1).

Specialty coffee that follows the offices

Taller de Espresso, at Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla 1586 in Colonia Americana, was founded in 2008 by the barista Pedro Gómez, the two-time Mexican champion Arturo García and Gilberto Pérez. It is a roastery first and a purist's coffee bar second, with a terrace.4 It opens 09:00–14:30 and 15:30–19:00 on weekdays and 10:00–14:00 on Saturdays, so plan a call around the midday gap.

El Terrible Juan, 51st on The World's 100 Best Coffee Shops in 2025, runs small express bars called Juanito Coffee Club at the ITESO university, in Plaza Andares and inside two companies, Wizeline and CompuSoluciones.5 In Providencia, Perfect Daily Grind described Matraz, at Buenos Aires 2679, as a welcoming place to work from or to read a book.4

Working in Colonia Americana, Providencia and Santa Tere

Bromelia Té & Café, at 2121 A Avenida de La Paz, keeps the longest weekday hours of the Americana group, 08:15–20:30, but closes at 13:00 on weekends. Hipatia Café at 1490 Miguel Blanco serves vegan food and brunch Tuesday to Saturday 09:00–16:00 and on Sundays until 15:00; it is closed on Mondays. Fragola Neveria Cafeteria, a nevería (ice-cream parlor) as well as a café, opens daily 10:00–00:00.

In Providencia, Matcha mío at 2740-3 José Bonifacio Andrada is open 09:00–21:00 Tuesday to Saturday and 09:00–16:00 on Sundays and Mondays. In Santa Tere, Elefante Sabio Café at 84 Francisco González Rojas opens every day 08:00–16:00, which makes it a morning-and-lunch office rather than an evening one.

Wi-Fi in the Centro Histórico and Chapalita

Downtown is where the city's best-known coffee chain began. La Flor de Córdoba dates from 1938, when it sold envelopes of pure ground coffee before opening a roasting shop in central Guadalajara, and it now runs more than 120 cafés in Jalisco, Michoacán, Nayarit, Guanajuato and Sinaloa, and roasts on a Probat PX120 brought from Germany.6

The downtown cafés with Wi-Fi keep their own schedules. Santuario de la Bicicleta at 466 Jesús González Ortega opens Monday to Saturday 09:00–13:00 and again 17:00–22:00, and Centro Cultural André Breton is at 175 Juan Manuel. In Chapalita, Kanata Coffee is at 4497 Avenida Tepeyac, while Board Game La Madriguera, at 947 on the same avenue, opens only from Friday afternoon to Sunday.

Public Wi-Fi, coworking and what a working day costs

Away from cafés, Red Jalisco, the state's free public network, reaches all 125 municipalities in Jalisco, with access in plazas, schools, hospitals and public buildings. In August 2026 a state deputy called it the largest free high-speed public network in Latin America.7

For a proper desk, WeWork has four sites in the metro area, including Avenida de las Américas 1254 and Midtown Jalisco, where a day pass started at MX$732 as of 2026.8 That is the price of about ten cappuccinos: in October 2026 a regular cappuccino in Guadalajara averaged MX$68.17, in a range of MX$60–100.3

Heat and rain on a working day

May is the hottest month, with daytime highs around 33°C, so a shaded terrace matters most in late spring.1 The rain comes in summer. On the 1991–2020 normals, June averages 183.8 mm, July 271.3 mm, August 220.5 mm and September 193.7 mm, out of 1,013.5 mm a year, which makes an indoor table the safer choice from June to September.1
