Getting online in the Sacred Valley means knowing which café in each town has Wi-Fi: Apu Organic Nativo and Café Snack Kitamayu in Pisac, Mi Frutal in Urubamba, Heart's Cafe in Ollantaytambo and Kiah Coffee in Chinchero. Between them they cover the day from 07:00 to 21:00.

A café connection counts for more here than in a city. In the first quarter of 2026, 25.0% of rural Peruvian households had internet at home, against 65.0% in urban areas outside Lima and 82.7% in metropolitan Lima, according to INEI, the national statistics institute.1 Rural users mostly get online by phone: 91.2% of them connected through a mobile in the same quarter.1

Local tip: If you buy a Peruvian SIM, register the phone at the operator's store when you buy the line; roaming on a home SIM needs no paperwork.

Where these cafés are: Urubamba (3), Ollantaytambo (2), Pisac (2), Chinchero & Maras (1).

Mobile data and Peruvian SIM cards

Mobile coverage reaches further than home broadband. In early 2026, 88.9% of rural households had mobile phone service, up from 86.5% a year before.1 Visitors roaming on their home SIM have nothing to register.2

Anyone who puts a Peruvian chip into a phone bought abroad must register the handset in person with the operator that sold the line, under rules OSIPTEL, the telecoms regulator, applies to phones activated from 22 April 2024.2 The operator checks that the IMEI is valid, and the customer signs a sworn statement that the phone was obtained legally.2 Phones that skip this get a text message asking the owner to regularize; in September 2024 blocking was suspended for the time being.2
