Two phrases decide a laptop session in a Taipei café: 不限時 (no time limit) and 低消 (minimum spend). In its July 2026 survey of Da'an cafés, Marie Claire Taiwan found the minimum was usually one drink per person, and that most places set no limit on weekdays but cap stays at two to three hours when full at weekends.1 Most do not take reservations.1
Laptop workers here have rated cafés on exactly these points for years. Cafe Nomad, a site compiled by its users, scores cafés across Taiwan on Wi-Fi stability, quiet, transit access, time limits and 插座 (power outlets); by 2017 it already covered 12 cities, and its Taipei list could be filtered by MRT line.2
Local tip: Check the 低消 and 限時 (time limit) lines before you open the laptop, and come on a weekday: the two- to three-hour caps usually apply only when a café fills up at weekends.1
Where these cafés are: Zhongzheng & Main Station (18), Gongguan (17), Minsheng Community & Songshan (15), Yongkang Street & Shida (15), East District (Dongqu) (14), Nanjing East Road & Xingtian Temple (13), Tonghua & Technology Building (12), Dadaocheng & Dihua Street (11), Wenshan & Muzha (11), Xinyi (9), Zhongshan & Chifeng Street (8), Neihu & Nangang (6), Ximending & Wanhua (4), Shilin (4), Yonghe & Zhonghe (4), Dazhi (3).

Picnic Cafe (野餐咖啡) at 75 Wenzhou Street (溫州街) sets no limit on weekdays and 2.5 to 3 hours on full weekends, with a minimum of one drink or one main or dessert, and it holds tables only by phone, up to 30 minutes ahead.1 靈感咖啡 (My Desy), a vegan café on the third floor of 84-6 Xinsheng South Road Section 3, limits stays to 2.5 hours when full but lets you order again to stay on if nobody is waiting.1
Outlets are the scarcer resource. My Desy has one at almost every seat, while Homey's cafe, upstairs at 36 Lane 236 Dunhua South Road Section 1, sets no time limit on any day but has outlets only at some wall seats.1
The city and national networks make a fair backup. Since 1 April 2020, Taipei Free's more than 3,000 hotspots, mostly in district offices, city buildings, libraries, municipal hospitals, MRT stations and the underground malls, connect once you tap to accept the terms, with no account.3 A phone that sends no traffic for 15 minutes is logged off.3
The national iTaiwan network dropped its login on 1 July 2020 and had more than 9,700 access points at transit hubs, tourist sites and other public places by 2021.4
Zhongzheng & Main Station and Gongguan have the most cafés with Wi-Fi, followed by Minsheng Community & Songshan and Yongkang Street & Shida. In Zhongzheng, Simple Kaffa at 27 Zhongxiao East Road Section 2 has Wi-Fi, 16.67 Cafe at 13-4 Xiangyang Road (襄陽路) opens at 07:30 on weekdays, and 紙街 (Paper St. Cafe) at 28 Bade Road Section 1 runs daily 10:00–20:00.
Gongguan's cluster sits on Wenzhou Street and in the lanes off Roosevelt Road Section 3 (羅斯福路三段). Davinci Coffee, at 2 Lane 58 Wenzhou Street, has air conditioning and opens 10:00–19:00, until 21:00 on Friday and Saturday; 挑豆院 (Navie Yard), at 2-1 Lane 269 Roosevelt Road Section 3, opens Tuesday to Saturday 10:00–20:00 and Sunday until 18:30. In Minsheng Community, 좋은 날 好日子咖啡 at 129 Yanshou Street (延壽街) runs daily 13:00–22:00.
About one in six Wi-Fi cafés stays open until 22:00 or later. 吐司利亞 (Toasteria Cafe), on Lane 169 of Dunhua South Road Section 1, serves until 01:00 every night, and CAFE Macho (早秋咖啡) at 10 Jinjiang Street (晉江街) and 天曉得 (God Knows) on Lane 105 of Shida Road (師大路) close at midnight. YABOO's branch at 10-1 Lane 9 Lishui Street (麗水街) has Wi-Fi and opens 12:00–23:00; Bella found enough outlets at the seats of its Yongkang Street café in 2024.5
Early starts are rarer. 法式修頌 (Chausson) at 183 Siwei Road (四維路) opens daily at 07:00, OFNA Coffee in Lane 66 of Nanjing East Road Section 5 at 07:30 on weekdays, and 生活在他方 (elsewhere café) on Lane 119 of Roosevelt Road Section 1 at 07:30 from Tuesday to Sunday.

Usually, within house rules. Marie Claire Taiwan's 2026 survey of Da'an cafés found most ask for one drink per person and set no time limit on weekdays, then cap stays at two to three hours when full at weekends. Outlets vary: Homey's cafe has them only at some wall seats, while My Desy has one at almost every seat.
不限時 means no time limit and 低消 means minimum spend. In Taipei cafés the minimum is usually one drink per person, and Picnic Cafe on Wenzhou Street also accepts a main or a dessert. Some no-limit cafés switch to 2.5- or 3-hour limits when full at weekends, and My Desy lets you stay on by ordering again if nobody is waiting.
Yes. Taipei Free has more than 3,000 hotspots, mostly in district offices, libraries, city hospitals and MRT stations, and since 1 April 2020 it connects without an account once you accept the terms. It logs out a phone idle for 15 minutes. The national iTaiwan network dropped its login in July 2020 and had more than 9,700 access points by 2021.
