Open late cafés in Istanbul

Open until 22:00 or later, from Kadife Sokak and Karaköy to Bebek's 03:00 closers.

Geç saate kadar açık means open until late, which here is 22:00 or later. Moda has the most late cafés, about one in six, with Beyoğlu, Karaköy and Fatih next, then Kadıköy's market quarter and Üsküdar. Garni, on Şevki Bey Sokağı in Moda, is open around the clock; elsewhere the last cups go between 22:00 and 03:00.

Getting home sets the limit. Since the night of 30 August 2019, several metro lines have run through Friday and Saturday nights, including the M2 Yenikapı–Hacıosman, the M4 from Kadıköy and the M5 from Üsküdar.1 In December 2023 seven lines ran nonstop from Friday 06:00 to Sunday 00:00, the Beylikdüzü–Söğütlüçeşme metrobus ran through every night, and nine İETT bus lines ran overnight.2

Local tip: On weeknights there is no night metro, so after a late coffee on the Asian side use the Beylikdüzü–Söğütlüçeşme metrobus, which runs through the night.2

Kadife Sokak and the Kadıköy side

Moda's latest tables are on Kadife Sokak, the bar street, where Kahve Bahane Kültür Cafe at No. 27 serves until 02:30 from Monday to Saturday and Bina at No. 26 until 02:00. Bina has one of the area's nicest interior gardens for warm evenings.3 Elsewhere in Moda, Moda Cafe opens from noon to 02:00, and Moda Çikolatacısı on Şair Nefi Sokağı pours until 23:30.

In Yeldeğirmeni, Garda Cafe on Karakolhane Caddesi closes at 01:00, Komşu Kafe Collective at midnight and Dino Breakfast Cafe on İskele Sokağı at 23:30. In the market quarter, Thales Cafe on Hacı Şükrü Sokağı is the 02:00 option, and Whispers Coffee stays until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.

Karaköy, Cihangir and Beyoğlu after midnight

On the European side, LOL Coffee Roasters and Amelie in Karaköy both serve until 02:00, and Konak Cafe on Hacı Ali Sokağı until midnight. Up the hill in Cihangir, Afil Cihangir on Anahtar Sokağı runs until 03:00 on Fridays and Saturdays, and MUUS Coffee on Oba Sokak until 00:00.

Off İstiklal, Kus Yuvasi Pera on Kartal Sokağı closes at 01:00, and Mornings in Pera opens at 07:30 and stays open until midnight. In Galata, Gallant Galata on Büyük Hendek Caddesi serves until 01:00.

Boza and late tea in the old city

In Fatih, Hanegah on At Pazarı Meydanı Sokak is open 08:30–02:00, and Emri Cafe on Vatan Caddesi, Osman Oğlu Cafe on Muratpaşa Sokak, both branches of vay cafe and Vefakar stay open until 01:00. Near the monuments, Harabbe Cafe on Ticarethane Sokak serves until 03:00.

Vefa Bozacısı was opened in 1876 by the brothers Hacı İbrahim and Hacı Sadık near Direklerarası, then an entertainment district, and it is the only boza shop of that era still in business, now run by their great-great-grandchildren.4 Boza is a thick, slightly sour fermented drink made from millet and other grains, with about 1% alcohol.4 The shop, at 66 Vefa Caddesi, is open daily 08:00–22:00.

Bebek, Ortaköy and the Üsküdar shore

Ab'bas Waffle on Cevdetpaşa Caddesi in Bebek serves until 03:00 every day, and Patio Bebek on the same street and Kavanoz on Tekkeci Sokağı until 02:00. In Ortaköy, Assk Cafe on Muallim Naci Caddesi is open until 01:00, and in Beşiktaş, Chef Coffee on Mısırlı Sokağı until 02:00 at weekends.

Across the water, Katibim on the Harem shore closes at 02:00, or 03:00 on Fridays and Saturdays. Yesil Mavi Kafe also closes at 02:00, and Kuzgun Kahvesi in Kuzguncuk and Aşiyan Books And Coffee on Selman Ağa Çeşme Sokağı at 01:00. Murat Muhallebi, a muhallebici (milk-pudding shop) on Kısıklı Caddesi, opens at 06:00 from Monday to Saturday and closes at midnight.
