Cambodia drinks far more coffee than it grows. The country imported about 12,000 tonnes of green coffee beans in 2025, worth more than US$70 million, while its own farms in Mondulkiri, Ratanakiri, Pursat, Pailin and Tboung Khmum harvested 1,333 tonnes from 563 hectares.1 The Cambodia Coffee Association estimates that Cambodians aged 20 to 69 get through about 1.5 million cups a day.1
Tastes are shifting at the top end. Pour-over, siphon and cold brew have become more common in Cambodian cafés, and roaster Kimheng Chhay told Seasia in 2025 that customers now ask about the farms, the roasting process and brewing styles.2
Local tip: Ask for a Mondulkiri robusta by name and drink it black first: Three Corner Coffee Roaster on Street 41BT buys its robusta from Bunong farmers there, so the bean is the same one the street stalls roast dark.

Robusta from the northeastern highlands
Most of the home crop is robusta: about 90 percent of Cambodian coffee farmers grow it, and the rest grow arabica.3 Well-managed farms can yield up to four tonnes per hectare, double the average of about two.3 The 2026 heatwaves hit hard; Piseth Duk, president of the Cambodian Coffee Association and a Mondulkiri grower, lost about 30 percent of his newly planted trees.3
Quality has been recognized abroad. In 2024, Mondulkiri robusta processed by the company Kofi was graded Fine Robusta by the Coffee Quality Institute, the first Cambodian coffee to reach that grade.4 Much of the local harvest leaves the country: Cambodia exported 601 tonnes in 2025, to markets including Estonia, China, Japan and Russia.1
Phnom Penh roasters and Cambodian beans
The traditional cup is a different drink. Street-stall beans are roasted in vegetable or pork fat until black, brewed thick and strong, and served over ice, sometimes with condensed milk.5 Specialty roasters in the capital work at the other end of the scale.
Three Corner Coffee Roaster, established in 2010, describes itself as the first international-standard roaster in Cambodia.6 Josh Jones, a co-founder who took over the business in 2017, buys robusta from Bunong farmers in Mondulkiri; the company began in Ratanakiri but moved when supply there ran short, and its Phnom Penh café sells beans through a jar-refill system.7 The address is House #11, Street 41BT, in Boeng Tumpun & Mean Chey.
Feel Good Coffee, an employee-owned social business, roasts organic fair-trade beans from Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia.8 Its Feel Good Café at 136 Street 136, a few blocks from the riverside, opens daily 07:30–18:00.
