Nové Město has the most cafés open past 22:00, ahead of Staré Město and Vinohrady. Nearly half of the late cafés close between 22:00 and 23:00, and more than a quarter keep going to midnight or later. Several call themselves café bars, such as Relax Café Bar on Dlážděná and Gambit Café and Bar on Urxova in Karlín.
The oldest late room is Kavárna Slavia, opened on 30 August 1884 at the corner of Národní and Smetanovo nábřeží, opposite the National Theatre.1 Its regulars included Antonín Dvořák and, later, Václav Havel and Bohumil Hrabal. Leased to an investment firm in 1989, it stayed shut until 1997 despite protests from Prague residents.1 Today it serves until 23:00 Monday to Saturday.
Local tip: Check the night tram before the last round: from about 00:00, lines 91–99 run every 30 minutes, every 20 on Friday and Saturday nights, all through Lazarská.2

Čajovny (tea rooms) open late in the day and close late. The first Dobrá čajovna, founded by Aleš Juřina and Jiří Šimsa, opened on Wenceslas Square on 1 June 1993, and the name now covers a franchise of tea rooms in several countries.3
