In Lyon, a café that serves after dark is usually a café-bar with a drinks licence, and the law sets its closing time. A prefectoral order of 17 February 2022 fixes 01:00 as closing time every night for bars and restaurants that serve on the premises.1 The prefect can grant a permanent late licence for up to two years, to 04:00 with no alcohol sold after 03:00, and the mayor can allow two late nights a month for events.1

Terreaux & Les Pentes have the most late cafés, with La Guillotière second, where they bunch on Rue Salomon Reinach and Rue Saint-Michel. Part-Dieu, the Croix-Rousse, the Brotteaux and Vieux Lyon each add a handful.

Rue Salomon Reinach and Rue Saint-Michel

La Fourmilière, at 15 Rue Salomon Reinach, is a café, restaurant and apéro bar with free events open to all; its house cocktails cost €9.50 as of 2026.2 It serves until midnight on Mondays and Tuesdays and until 01:00 from Wednesday to Saturday.2 Its neighbor at 17, L'Antisèche, starts at 17:00 and closes at 01:00.

Les Clameurs keeps 17:00–23:59 Tuesday to Saturday, and Coolé, on Quai Claude Bernard by the Rhône, stays open until midnight from Monday to Saturday. Le Bistrot des Fauves on Rue Saint-Michel works for both ends of the day, with coffee from 08:30 and closing at 01:00.

Qui Vivra Jouera, farther south on the Grande Rue de la Guillotière, runs until 01:00 on Fridays and Saturdays.

Board games and late rooms on the Pentes

Moi j'm'en fous je triche, a volunteer-run games café on the Pentes, has close to 2,000 board games, from party and card games to strategy titles.3 Volunteers welcome players from 19:00, and the room closes after 23:30.3

Kotopo opens at 18:00 and serves until 23:00, or midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. UFO stays open 09:00–00:00 from Wednesday to Sunday, La Mezza reopens for the evening, 18:00–23:00 daily, and NoZe keeps going until 22:30 from Monday to Saturday. By the Saône, La Papoterie on Quai de la Pêcherie serves until 22:00 on four weekdays.

Part-Dieu, the Brotteaux and the plateau

Le Candide, a bistro on Avenue Félix Faure, is open from 09:00 to midnight on weekdays and from 16:00 to midnight on Saturdays.4 In the 6th, Café Juliette on Rue Juliette Récamier opens at 08:00 and stays open until 01:00 Tuesday to Saturday, and Breizh Café serves without a break from 12:00 to 22:00 at weekends.

On the Croix-Rousse, Bistrot Theleme on Rue Pelletier serves until 23:00 on Fridays and Saturdays. In Monplaisir, Éclair Café stays open until 22:00 on Thursdays and Fridays, and on the Presqu'île, Caffe Nobile on Rue de la Charité until 23:00 from Thursday to Saturday.

Sunday and Monday nights

Early in the week the choice narrows, and terraces must come in at midnight on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays rather than 01:00.5 Le Bistrot des Fauves is the safest bet, open until 01:00 every day. L'Epicerie de Ginette on Cours Albert Thomas keeps 11:00–00:00 daily, and Régal café on the Boulevard de la Croix-Rousse closes at 23:30.

In Vieux Lyon, Café Luna opens noon to midnight on Sundays and Mondays. Vélcroc on the Rhône bank serves until 23:00 on Sundays and midnight on Mondays.
