Wi-Fi in Dublin cafés is common but not a given, and plugs are scarcer still. A 2023 roundup of cafés to work from found some with both, some with Wi-Fi and no sockets, and some well-known counters with sockets but no network.1

Grafton Street & St Stephen's Green has the most cafés with Wi-Fi, ahead of the Liberties and Capel Street & O'Connell Street. Busyfeet & Coco on William Street South, Best Seller on Dawson Street, the Kilkenny café on Nassau Street and The Bald Barista on Aungier Street all offer it.

Local tip: Arrive early to claim a table near a socket; Courts Coffee Shop on Merchant's Quay opens at 07:00 on weekdays and has Wi-Fi.

Where these cafés are: Grafton Street & St Stephen's Green (8), The Liberties (5), Capel Street & O'Connell Street (3), Rathmines & Ranelagh (2), Merrion Square & Baggot Street (1), Harold's Cross & Terenure (1), Ballsbridge (1), Portobello & Camden Street (1), Temple Bar & Dame Street (1), Phibsborough & Drumcondra (1).

Cafés with plugs and Wi-Fi

Mind the Step on Great Strand Street has plugs and Wi-Fi and is open until 23:00, one of the few late cafés in the city.1 Third Space in Smithfield, Tang on Abbey Street, Blas Café on King's Inns Street and Shoe Lane Coffee, upstairs near Tara Street station, all had both in 2023, and Network on Aungier Street even offered MagSafe chargers.1

Third Space has run in Smithfield since 2012 as a business with a social purpose, and community groups use the room outside business hours.2

Wi-Fi without plugs, plugs without Wi-Fi

Coverage differs even inside one company. In 2023 Coffeeangel had Wi-Fi in all its Dublin cafés but plugs only at Hatch Street Upper and the IFSC, and Brother Hubbard's Capel Street café had Wi-Fi but no sockets while its Ranelagh café had both.1

At Copper + Straw on Aston Quay and Vice Coffee on Middle Abbey Street there were sockets but no Wi-Fi. Vice has good mobile reception, and the advice was to finish before its evening music starts.1

Older Wi-Fi standbys

A 2018 list of freelancer-friendly cafés found free Wi-Fi at Kaph on Drury Street, with upstairs seating in good light; at KC Peaches on the Dame Street and George's Street corner, with sockets upstairs; and at Bewley's, with an upstairs seating area.3

Kaph now opens 09:00–18:00 Monday to Saturday and 12:00–18:00 on Sundays, and KC Peaches on Dame Street stays open until 20:00 on weekdays. Away from the centre, Wi-Fi turns up at Courts Coffee Shop, The Food Gallery on Thomas Street and BlackBerry Cafe on St Luke's Avenue in the Liberties, and at Two Fifty Square in William's Park and Wilde & Green on Milltown Road in Rathmines. In Portobello, Mart on Lennox Street has it and opens 09:30–16:30 on weekdays.

Hours and etiquette

Most cafés with Wi-Fi keep daytime hours. Blas Café, The Bald Barista and Póg on Bachelors Walk all close at 16:00 on weekdays, and Crema on Serpentine Avenue in Ballsbridge at 15:00. Courts Coffee Shop on Merchant's Quay runs to 18:00 every day and opens at 07:00 on weekdays.

For a long session, pick quiet hours: the 2023 roundup warned against Saturday mornings at the Fumbally and weekend brunch at Bibi's in Portobello.1
