Panama City is hot all year. Temperatures average about 27 °C, the mean daily high is 32.1 °C, and April is the hottest month at 33.4 °C.1 The dry season runs from December to April; from May to November it rains, and October is the wettest month at 311.2 mm, against 12.3 mm in February.1

Most café terraces are in Bella Vista and El Cangrejo. Athanasiou on Calle Colombia, Coffee Max and Natturah have outdoor tables in Bella Vista; on and around Vía Argentina, Mentiritas Blancas and Armonica Café do, and Armonica keeps its terrace open into the evening. Mentiritas Blancas is on Avenida 2B, off Vía Argentina, with a small outdoor front.2

Local tip: In the rainy season, take the terrace before lunch: from May to August the mornings are usually dry and the rain arrives in the afternoon.3

When to sit outside

From May to August the rain mostly comes in the afternoon and the mornings are usually sunny; from September to November it rains harder, though there are still many sunny hours.3 Relative humidity averages 77.3% over the year, and the city records about 137 days with at least 1 mm of rain.1

A morning table in the dry months, December to April, is the safest bet for staying dry.1

Terraces by barrio

In the old town, Geisha Terroir on Avenida Eloy Alfaro has outdoor tables as well as an air-conditioned room. In Obarrio, Charlie's Cream, a bakery, sets tables outside; in San Francisco, Tosto on Calle Benito Reyes Testa does, and Leto's Plaza 76 bar has a terrace.4 Siete Granos in El Cangrejo has a terrace full of plants.5

In Parque Lefevre, Panama Ammunition Coffee on calle 4ta has outdoor seating, Wi-Fi and air-conditioning, but keeps weekday hours only, 09:00–15:00.

Terraces open in the evening

Athanasiou on Calle Colombia keeps the longest hours, 06:30–22:00 every day. Armonica Café in El Cangrejo opens Tuesday to Friday 12:00–22:00 and Saturday 16:00–23:00, and Tosto serves until 22:00 from Tuesday to Sunday.

Coffee Max runs until 21:00 on weekdays but closes at 16:00 on Saturdays and Sundays, so a weekend evening outside means Athanasiou, Armonica or Tosto.

Coffee to go along the bay

The Cinta Costera, the bayfront park and road whose first phase opened on June 20, 2009, runs about 7 km from Punta Paitilla along Avenida Balboa, with cycle paths, promenades, gazebos and fountains.6 Its third phase, which runs past Casco Antiguo, opened its breakwater promenade on April 9, 2014.6

Further east, Coco del Mar's Coco Parque opened in April 2026 on almost a hectare of seafront that had been closed for about two decades.7 The city logs about 1,980 hours of sunshine a year, so shade matters as much as the view.1

Indoors when it pours

Several terrace cafés also have rooms inside: Coffee Max and Natturah in Bella Vista and Mentiritas Blancas and Armonica Café in El Cangrejo all have indoor seating too, and Athanasiou adds air-conditioning. October's average of more than 300 mm of rain makes that switch a regular one.1
