The Cusco region grows some of Peru's best coffee. At the Taza de Excelencia, the national cupping competition, La Convención province produced the winning coffee in both 2020 and 2021. The 2021 winner was a Geisha from Dwight Aguilar Masías's farm, La Nueva Alianza in Santa Teresa, grown at 1,820 m and scored 90.20 points against 238 samples.1

The 2025 title went to Cajamarca, but a Cusco grower, Gilber Huayllas Huamán, placed third with 89.97 points.2 In the city, the specialty bars sit close together, most of them in the Centro Histórico, with others in San Blas and Wanchaq.

Local tip: Ask for coffee from Santa Teresa or Yanatile: both valleys are in the Cusco region and have produced Peru's top-scoring and record-priced lots.14

Where these cafés are: Centro Histórico (7), Wanchaq & Avenida de la Cultura (2), San Blas (2).

Where Cusco's coffee grows

COCLA, the Central de Cooperativas Agrarias Cafetaleras, was founded on July 26, 1967 and groups 21 first-tier cooperatives with more than 3,500 farming families near Machu Picchu. Its farms lie between about 1,300 and 2,200 m and grow Typica, Bourbon, Caturra and Catimor. The harvest runs from April in the lower zones to September in the highest.3

Calca province, next to La Convención, sells microlots too. At an auction in Yanatile district in September 2024, a Geisha from Gary Marcavillaca Guzmán scored 89.25 points and sold for S/10,000 per quintal, a record for the valley. More than 17 lots brought in over S/53,000.4

Three Monkeys and Florencia y Fortunata

Two Cusco cafés made The World's 100 Best Coffee Shops list in 2025. Three Monkeys Coffee, led by the baristas Neto Solórzano, Iván Salas and Diego Huillca, placed 22nd; Florencia y Fortunata placed 100th.5

Three Monkeys roasts at its own plant.6 Its newer café won a Sprudge Design Award in January 2025, for a café or roasting facility; the designer, Juan Carlos Pareja, used earthy tones and clean lines to tie the room to the mountains where the beans grow.7 It is at Calle Pampa de la Alianza 474.

Florencia y Fortunata, at Calle Suecia 332, is a social enterprise that works with women farmers in Cusco and Cajamarca to close the gender gap in coffee.6 It opens Monday to Saturday 08:30–19:30 and Sunday 12:00–20:30.

Other specialty bars in the center

Cercanía has two addresses near the Plaza de Armas: a café at Santa Catalina Angosta 219 and an obrador (workshop bakery) on Plazoleta de Santo Domingo, open Monday to Saturday 08:30–20:30. It is known for its sourdough, which it also supplies to other restaurants.8

El café de Mamá Oli, on Plazoleta de Nazarenas 199, combines specialty coffee with baked goods and has Wi-Fi. Outside the old town, cafetería de especialidad DeWasi on Avenida José Gabriel Cosio 204 in Wanchaq opens daily 07:00–23:00.

What a cup costs

A regular cappuccino cost S/7.33 on average in Cusco as of October 2026, in a range of S/5–12, according to Numbeo, whose figures come from a handful of contributors and don't separate specialty bars from other cafés.9

At origin, prices for top lots run far higher: the record Yanatile Geisha fetched S/10,000 per quintal in 2024.4 Ask which farm or valley a filter coffee comes from; in Cusco the answer is often a district a few hours away.
