Specialty coffee in Singapore means single-origin beans, pour-overs and flat whites, and it runs as a trade of its own beside the kopitiam. Common Man Coffee Roasters shows how it took root: the business brought together the café 40 Hands, the Australian roaster Five Senses and the Spa Esprit Group around an eight-metre bar on Martin Road.1 It still roasts its filter coffee at that café, does the bulk espresso roasts at a larger roastery in Senoko, and distributes Five Senses beans across Southeast Asia.2
Roasting is crowded for a city of this size. In 2022 Nor Aslam Bin Yusoff, who opened the roastery and café The Community in December 2017, counted more than 50 roasters for 5.5 million people, and twelve cafés were sharing The Community's Giesen W6A machine.3 For the drinker, prices have settled into a band: in February 2026 most specialty cafés charged S$6 to S$7 for a latte, and many add a charge for ice.4
Local tip: To watch beans being roasted, go to Oaks Coffee Roasters at 619H Bukit Timah Road, where the roaster sits in a small room at the back; a double espresso there cost S$4 in July 2026.5
Where these cafés are: Civic District & Bras Basah (6), Geylang, Paya Lebar & the north-east (5), CBD & Marina Bay (5), Tiong Bahru & Outram (3), Little India & Jalan Besar (3), Bukit Timah (2), Tanjong Pagar, Duxton & Keong Saik (2), Clarke Quay, Robertson Quay & River Valley (2), Katong & Joo Chiat (2), Bukit Merah, HarbourFront & Sentosa (2), Orchard (1), Chinatown & Telok Ayer (1), Holland Village & Dempsey (1).
The Coffee Code

Oaks Coffee Roasters opened in 2026 at 619H Bukit Timah Road, in the unit Flip Coffee Roasters vacated when it moved to Stevens Road.5 It is the second shop of the team behind Oaks Coffee Co. on Upper Thomson Road, which started as Kinsmen Coffee in 2013, and the name behind it is Jervis Tan, the 2025 Singapore National Barista Champion and a five-time national latte art champion.5
The beans are roasted in a small room at the back, in view of the counter. In July 2026 a double-shot espresso cost S$4, a black S$5 and a white S$6, and the espresso beans were a Cerrado from Brazil and a Gichichi AA from Kenya.5
On the eastern side of the city, 20grams Roastery & Coffee Bar at 14 Arumugam Road roasts in the Nordic style under Alvin Mok, who has worked in coffee for more than a decade.2 It keeps short hours: 08:30–16:00 from Tuesday to Friday and 09:30–17:00 at weekends.
Fahrenheit Specialty Coffee opened in 2021 in the lobby of the Spa Club at 75 Beach Road, with a pair of tall tables on the pavement in front of the windows.6 The menu is a standard espresso list plus V60 pour-overs of rotating single origins, all roasted by its sister company, Community Coffee.6 Ask Coffee Roastery is a short walk away at 32 Seah Street.
In Jalan Besar, The Community Roastery & Cafe is at 38 Hamilton Road, and Zerah Coffee Roasters is on the second floor of 465 North Bridge Road.
The roasters keep office hours. 20grams closes at 16:00 on weekdays and takes Monday off, and Oaks Coffee Roasters on Bukit Timah Road runs 07:30–17:30 every day. Round Boy Roasters, at 146 Jalan Bukit Merah, is one of the early ones, opening at 08:00 from Tuesday to Saturday, but it closes at 15:00 on weekdays and 16:30 at weekends.
The exception is Parallel Coffee Roasters in Tanjong Pagar, which does not open until 11:00 (10:00 on Sundays) and then stays open until 22:00, or 23:00 on Fridays and Saturdays. In the south-west, Ji Yue Specialty Coffee in the Bukit Merah and HarbourFront area has outdoor tables and does takeaway.
