A terraza is a café’s set of tables on the pavement or square outside. In 2020 the city counted almost 4,000 terraces after approving 594 new ones and 466 extensions that year; the Paseo Marítimo, El Carmen and Ruzafa (Russafa in Valencian) had the densest concentration.1
The rules are strict around the monuments. Tables must leave a passage of at least 1.80 meters, and on the Plaza de la Virgen they must stay 3 meters away from protected buildings.1 Among cafés with outdoor seating, Ciutat Vella has the most, the Cabanyal comes second, and La Saïdia has the highest share: about a third of its cafés put tables outside.
Local tip: In Ruzafa from March to October, terraces may stay out until 01:30 on Friday and Saturday but must clear by 00:30 from Sunday to Thursday.5
Where these cafés are: Ciutat Vella (10), El Cabanyal & Malvarrosa (7), La Saïdia (6), Ruzafa (5), Extramurs (5), Pla del Real & Algirós (5), Camins al Grau (3), Patraix, Jesús & L'Olivereta (3), Eixample (2), Benimaclet (2), El Carmen (1), Quatre Carreres (1), Rascanya & Benicalap (1).

Brunch Corner La Virgen, on Carrer del Comte d’Almodòvar, serves brunch daily from 09:00 to 16:00; as of 2024 its seven menus, one of them vegan, cost €9 to €18.2 Café Sant Jaume has tables on Carrer de Cavallers and Café Lisboa on the Plaça del Doctor Collado.
Cult Café, on Carrer de l’Arquebisbe Mayoral, opened in autumn 2021 under Katarina Safa, Luis Monsalve and Virginia Ruiz, and brews beans from Ineffable, a roaster in Seville.3 Coffee Room, on Carrer de Guillem de Castro, opens at 07:30 on weekdays and shuts at 14:30.
How late a terrace stays out depends on the street. El Carmen (El Carme), with the Pilar, Mercat, La Seu and La Xerea quarters, became an acoustically saturated zone, or ZAS, in 2018. Terraces there may run 09:00–00:30, with 30 minutes more on Fridays, Saturdays and holiday eves from March to October, and no new tables are licensed on sidewalks or pedestrian space.4
Ruzafa was declared a ZAS in April 2026. Its terraces close at 00:30 from March to October, or 01:30 at weekends, and at 00:00, or 00:30 at weekends, for the rest of the year; new terraces on public space are limited across 18 streets.5 The same spring the city cut hours on the Plaza del Cedre and Plaza d’Hondures to 08:00–00:30 from March to October, 01:00 on Fridays, Saturdays and holiday eves, with Fallas following its own rules.6
Carrer de la Reina has a run of cafés with outdoor tables: Kaide at number 23, open 08:30–16:00 on weekdays, and Monkee at number 44, which closes for lunch and reopens from 16:00 to 20:00. On Carrer de la Barraca, Tallat and Cafè al Forn both seat customers outside.
Café Drassanes faces the Plaça de Joan Antoni Benlliure, Camino del Cabañal has tables on the street that gives it its name, and Doux / Amer on Carrer de Just Vilar serves outside daily until 16:00.
In Ruzafa, Café Madrigal on Carrer de Puerto Rico is open daily 10:00–00:00, and Café ArtySana on Carrer de Dénia and Hoja La, also on Carrer de Dénia, have outdoor seating. Casa Raíz, on Carrer del Pintor Salvador Abril, hosted events of the Valencia Is Coffee festival in May 2025.7
La Saïdia’s terraces cluster on Carrer del Pla de la Saïdia, where Alquima Caf opens 08:00–21:00 Monday to Thursday and Cafeteria Lucia serves brunch. Mayan Coffees on Carrer d’Hug de Montcada and Cafeteria Vivers on Carrer de Rafael Comenge also have tables outside.
