Staying a while: bills and service charge

If you settle in for hours, expect a service charge on the bill at most sit-down places, typically 10% in Sri Lankan hotels and restaurants, though some charge a little more or less. The money is pooled and divided among staff each month, and a tip on top is usually kept for exceptional service.7 Part-time staff receive half a share and trainees none.7
