Perth's earliest coffee is mostly a weekday habit. The CBD has the most cafés open by 06:00, ahead of East Perth, then Northbridge, Victoria Park and Mount Lawley, and several of the city ones don't open at all on Saturdays and Sundays. Most of the early cafés have also stopped serving by 15:00.

How dark 06:00 is depends on the month, because the clocks never change. Western Australia has kept standard time all year since its fourth daylight-saving referendum failed on 16 May 2009, when 54.57% voted no.3 On 1 December 2026 the sun rises at about 05:03, while on 30 June it rises at about 07:18, and even civil twilight starts only at about 06:51.12

Local tip: On a Sunday, Little Willy's on William Street in Northbridge opens at 06:00 but closes at 12:00, and the bus or train there is free with a SmartRider or contactless card.

The 05:00 start and the 24-hour counter

Chet's Cafe at 67 James Street in Northbridge opens at 05:00 from Monday to Friday and at 06:00 on Saturday, the earliest regular start in the inner city.

Little Willy's at 267 William Street opens at 06:00 every day of the week, closing at 13:00 on weekdays and 12:00 at weekends. Broadsheet noted in 2024 that the kitchen makes everything except the bread on site, with the breakfast burrito the order to make.5

CBD and East Perth: weekday mornings

In the city, Basilica at 125 St Georges Terrace opens at 06:00 from Monday to Friday, closing at 14:30 or 15:00, and 99 Shades of Green and Little Soho Coffee Co. also start at 06:00 on weekdays only. Voodoo Coffee at 300 Murray Street opens at 06:00 on weekdays and keeps going until 22:00. Drip House is the city's daily early opener, 06:00–14:00 seven days a week.

East Perth has three early cafés. Caffissimo opens daily 06:00–15:00, and Bella-Gina cafe opens at 06:00 on weekdays but not until 07:30 on Saturday. Espresso Perk U Later, at 74 Wellington Street, starts at 06:00 from Tuesday to Friday and at 07:00 at weekends, and is closed on Mondays.

Beaufort Street and the suburbs

On the Mount Lawley side, Old speak at 755 Beaufort Street opens at 06:00 on weekdays, and Whistle Stop Café at 116 West Parade from Monday to Saturday. Excelsior Deli, in Crawley & Nedlands, starts at 06:00 on weekdays and 06:30 at weekends.

Gemini Café at 293 Albany Highway in Victoria Park keeps the longest early day of all, 06:00–21:00 every day.

Early coffee on a Sunday

Sunday mornings narrow the choice. At 06:00 on a Sunday the open cafés are Little Willy's in Northbridge, Drip House in the CBD, Caffissimo in East Perth, Gemini Café on Albany Highway and Drip Expresso Bar in Inglewood & Bayswater; Excelsior Deli follows at 06:30 and Espresso Perk U Later at 07:00.

Getting there costs nothing. On Sundays Transperth buses, trains and ferries are free for SmartRider and contactless users from the first service to the last; the free travel doesn't extend to late-night services after midnight on Saturday.4
