Several Auckland roasters run cafés at or near their roasteries. Kōkako calls itself Auckland's first organic coffee roaster: it launched in 2001 in Aotea Square, and in 2017 moved its roasting to a larger space in Mt Eden.1 Its roastery café, The Roastery, is at 9 Charles Street.

The CBD has the most specialty espresso bars, ahead of Eden Terrace, Newmarket and the Wynyard Quarter. Expect daytime hours: Maeve Coffee Roasters at 22 Anzac Avenue opens at 07:00 on weekdays and closes at 16:00 every day.

Local tip: Roastery cafés keep office hours: plan a specialty crawl for the morning, since Ozone in Grey Lynn and Espresso Workshop at Britomart both close at 15:30, weekends included.
