Åpent sent means open late. About half of Oslo’s cafés close by 18:00, and many of the later ones double as bars, Fuglen and Café Laundromat among them. The city sets the limits: a place without an alcohol license may stay open around the clock, but alcohol service must end half an hour before closing and never after 03:00.1

Licensed places in the center and inner center may stay open indoors from 06:00 to 03:30, against 01:00 in residential areas outside the center.1 Beer and wine may be served from 08:00, spirits only from 13:00.1 On the October night when the clocks go back, alcohol service ends the first time the clock reaches 03:00, with no extra hour.1

Local tip: Kafé Oslo’s kitchen closes long before the bar, so eat before 21:00 if you plan a late night at Litteraturhuset.

Getting home

The metro is the easy way back until about 01:00, when the last trains of the night leave; service starts again at about 05:00 on weekdays and 06:00 at weekends.5 All five lines run through the Common Tunnel under the center, so any central station puts you on your line.5
