A 베이커리 카페 (bakery café) bakes on the premises and sells bread as much as coffee, and in Busan the bakeries came first. Baekgudang (백구당), founded in 1959, is the city's oldest Western-style bakery and has been run by three generations.12 Its croizen (크로이즌), filled with corn, was created by the second-generation owner in the 1970s.12

Bakery cafés now cluster in Busanjin-gu, where Jeonpo and Seomyeon have more than half of them; the rest sit in Gwangalli, Mangmi-dong, Yongho-dong and Yeonsan-dong. Prices have climbed across Korea: the national bread price index reached 138.61 in August 2025 (2020 = 100), 6.5% higher than a year earlier and more than three times the rise in overall consumer prices.3

Local tip: At Baekgudang, ask for the croizen, the corn-filled bread from the second-generation owner; the shop is a minute's walk from exit 15 of Jungang Station on Line 1.12

Where these cafés are: Jeonpo Café Street (3), Seomyeon (2), Gwangalli & Namcheon-dong (1), Yeonsan-dong & Dongnae (1), Yongho-dong & Igidae (1), Suyeong & Mangmi-dong (1).

Ppangcheon-dong: the bakeries of Namcheon-dong

Namcheon-dong in Suyeong-gu is nicknamed 빵천동 (Ppangcheon-dong, from 빵, bread) for the bakeries packed within a few hundred meters of each other.4 OPS (옵스) opened its first shop there in 1989 and bakes with natural fermentation and without artificial flavorings.5

A bakery walk usually starts at OPS. Its 학원전 (hagwonjeon, a snack "before cram school") is an egg-rich sponge that is only mildly sweet, and its other signature is cream bread (슈크림빵).4 In 2017 the same streets also held Rolling Pin, known for naturally leavened loaves fermented slowly at low temperature, Okmidang with its basil chiffon cake, and Maitre Artisan, run by a Korean and French couple, for croissants.4

P.ARK, a bread factory on the Yeongdo harbor

One bakery café in Yeongdo fills a whole building. P.ARK (피아크) on Haeyang-ro 195beon-gil in Yeongdo was built by the ship-repair company Jeil SR Group for about ₩55 billion on a site of about 3,000 pyeong (9,900 m²), and it opened its café in May 2021, ahead of the full launch.6 The name joins "platform" and "ark", and read as one word it becomes "park".6

Its ground floor holds a bread factory with about 30 bakers and parking for about 400 cars. The café and bakery fill the third and fourth floors, with stepped seating that looks out over Busan port and the Oryukdo islets.6

Downtown, Baekgudang stands at Jungang-daero 81beon-gil 3, a minute from exit 15 of Jungang Station on Line 1, and lays out about 250 items it makes itself, among them a mugwort-rice loaf (쑥쌀식빵) developed by the current owner.1 Another old local name, B&C (비엔씨), is known for its pie manju, crisp outside and chewy inside.2
