A 심야 카페 (simya kape, late-night café) keeps serving after 22:00, and in Busan the latest ones gather in two districts: the shopping streets of Seomyeon and the beach at Gwangalli. Seomyeon grew into a commercial center in the 1980s, when its factories moved to the city's outskirts and new shopping malls took their place.1 Seomyeon Station, where Lines 1 and 2 meet, ranks among the busiest stations in the country.1
Jeonpo and Seomyeon, side by side in Busanjin-gu, hold almost half of the late cafés, with Nampo-dong and Gwangalli next. Most close at 22:00 or 23:00. Only a couple pour past midnight, and one of those never closes.
Local tip: On a Saturday evening, take a table at a beachfront café in Gwangalli before the drone show starts; it lasts about 12 minutes and can be seen from anywhere on the beach.3
