스페셜티 커피 (specialty coffee) in Busan begins at the docks. A Bank of Korea Busan office report presented in July 2025 found that 92.1% of Korea's coffee imports arrive through Busan port.1 The same report noted that most coffee importers are based around Seoul, so the port mostly works as a transit point, and it called for building up coffee processing in Busan itself.1

The city's best-known roaster started small. Momos Coffee opened in 2007 as a 4-pyeong (about 13 m²) takeaway counter beside the owners' family restaurant, and its flagship still faces exit 2 of Oncheonjang Station in Geumjeong-gu.2 Its co-CEO Jeon Joo-yeon won the 2019 World Barista Championship, a first for Korea, and Chu Kyung-ha, who joined the company later, won the World Cup Tasters Championship in 2021.2

Local tip: At Momos's Yeongdo roastery, take a seat at the bar rather than a table: it is set up for a one-on-one conversation with a barista about the beans.2

Dongseong-ro and the Jeonpo roasters

Jeonpo leads Busan for specialty bars, with Gwangalli and Namcheon-dong next, and many of them sit on Dongseong-ro and its side lanes. Hitte Roastery (히떼로스터리), which roasts light in a Nordic style, moved to the second floor of Dongseong-ro 59 in September 2021.3 About 100 m away, Treasures Coffee (트레져스커피) at Dongseong-ro 49beon-gil 4 was serving light roasts across a range of varieties, origins and processing methods in 2022.3

Franklin Coffee Roasters is at Dongseong-ro 29 and 힘커피브루어스 at Dongseong-ro 71beon-gil 32. VICE VERSA roastery runs its espresso bar on the ground floor of Seojeon-ro 57beon-gil 27. Coffeeawake (커피어웨이크), which has roasted in-house since 2015 near Pusan National University, also has a Jeonpo branch.3

Namcheon-dong, Gwangalli and the Haeundae side

Hitte itself began in Namcheon-dong. Jung Hyo-jae opened it in 2018 in a room of about 15 pyeong (50 m²), after closing two cafés in Yangsan and spending six months visiting coffee shops in Japan, Australia, Norway and Germany.4 By November 2024 it had cafés in Jeonpo-dong, Gwangalli and Gangseo-gu and supplied its beans to about 80 cafés around the country.4

Hitte Roastery's café at Suyeong-ro 510beon-gil 57 is upstairs, as is BCBL Coffee Roasters on Namcheondong-ro 108beon-gil 49, and 오아스로스터스 is at Gwangan-ro 21beon-gil 23. Farther east, Tide Coffee Roasters on Dalmaji-gil 62beon-gil opens daily 09:00–19:00 and offers Wi-Fi. AboutLife Coffee Roasters is on Udong 1-ro 38beon-gil, and 김욱진커피랩 is in the Gyeongnam Marina arcade in Marine City, where Momos also has a branch at Marine City 1-ro 91.

Yeongdo, Nampo-dong and the old port

Momos roasts in Yeongdo, in a converted warehouse that also holds a coffee bar where you sit across from a barista for a one-on-one conversation about the cup.2 Its green coffee is kept at 18 °C and 55% humidity around the clock, and the company has bought beans directly from producers since 2011.2

Also in Yeongdo, OGU Roastery café (오구카페) is at Namhangseo-ro 52. In Nampo-dong, JM COFFEE ROASTERS is at Gwangbok-jungang-ro 9, with a two-floor branch at Bunpo-ro 66-17 in Yongho-dong, and Sel Roasters is on Haeannam-ro 1844beon-gil. If you arrive by KTX, 앤그레이커피로스터스 has a branch by Busan Station at Jungang-daero 180beon-gil 9.

What a filter costs at Busan's roasters

Prices from early 2022 give a guide. In January 2022 a filter coffee at Hitte cost ₩5,500 and an americano at Treasures ₩4,500; at Coffeeawake near Pusan National University, espresso and americano were ₩3,000 and a brewed coffee about ₩5,000.3 At several of these bars the brewed price changes with the bean, so ask what is on the hand-drip (핸드드립, pour-over) menu that day.3

Milk drinks have local signatures too. Coffee Space Bar in Munhyeon-dong, opened in 2017 by the barista and roaster Kim Tae-wan, is known for its coconut flat white.3
