The cà phê 24h, a café with no closing time, began in Saigon. VnExpress dates the first ones to around 2012 and says they caught on only about two years before its April 2022 report, by which time a typical chain had four or five branches in the central districts and around the universities.1

Bình Thạnh has the most round-the-clock cafés, ahead of District 1 and Phú Nhuận, and there are single ones as far out as District 8, Gò Vấp and Tân Phú. Most of them also have Wi-Fi.

Local tip: If you plan to doze between shifts or flights, ask at the counter first: some all-night cafés ban sleeping outright, while others are used to three or four guests staying overnight.

Where these cafés are: Bình Thạnh (5), Phú Nhuận (3), District 1 (3), District 7 (2), District 8 (1), Gò Vấp (1), Đa Kao & Tân Định (1), Tân Phú & Bình Tân (1), District 5 & Chợ Lớn (1).

Who sits in a Saigon café at 03:00

Students and office workers fill the all-night cafés, which get busy from about 21:00; in exam season the student crowd arrives earlier in the day.1 Night delivery riders and drivers stop to rest, and one manager told VnExpress that an average of three or four people sleep over at each café every day.1

The pull is partly the room at home. A final-year student told Sài Gòn Giải Phóng in 2022 that his rented room was so small his desk sat next to his bed, so he put off work there; a Thủ Đức café manager said one or two guests at a time worked until 03:00 or 04:00.2 A 2024 VietNamNet survey found 65% of young people still active after 22:00.3

How an all-night café runs

Staying open costs more than it earns in the small hours. A September 2025 report in Thương hiệu và Công luận put electricity for cooling and lighting at two to three times a normal café's bill, and night-shift pay at 25–30% above day rates.3 Losses are common from 02:00 to 05:00, when few customers come but the staff is still on.3

Security is part of the setup: owners install cameras, hire guards and train staff for drunk customers and theft.3 Some shops already ran more staff at night than in the day back in 2015, when Tuổi Trẻ News met a barista working 22:30 to 06:30.4 One chain plays music until 22:00, turns it down until midnight and keeps silence from 00:00 to 06:00.3

Where the 24-hour cafés are

District 1 has Cà Phê Snob at 147A Trần Hưng Đạo, LOWKEY COFFEE LC at 159 Nguyễn Du and YoshiYoshi Coffee & Tea at 132 Calmette.

Phú Nhuận has Cà Phê Đô Hội at 65 Phan Xích Long, Cà Phê Nguyên Chất at 417 Huỳnh Văn Bánh and HÀ - Acoustic Coffee at 178A Nguyễn Trọng Tuyển. Farther out are Cà Phê Hồng at 281 Hùng Vương in District 5, Epatta Coffee at 293 Quang Trung in Gò Vấp, which takes cards, and W Station, with air-conditioning, at 267G Trịnh Đình Trọng in Tân Phú.

Practical notes for a night in a café

The atmosphere changes through the night. Tuổi Trẻ News found indoor guests working, gaming or listening to music while couples and groups took makeshift chairs on the sidewalk, and staff dealing with rude or drunk customers and requests for louder music.4 Their competition after midnight is the convenience store: Circle K and GS25 also stay open 24 hours.3

House rules differ on sleep. One chain bans sleeping, card games and food brought from outside.3 At others, overnight sleepers are routine, and some guests come at 21:00 and leave at 06:00.1
