Open late cafés in Huế

Open until 22:00 or later; a few run past midnight.

In 2010, Pháp Luật TP.HCM described a city where young people went home before 21:00 and most of Huế was asleep after 22:00.1 Evenings have grown longer since. Of the cafés that stay open until 22:00 or later, about two in three close at exactly that hour.

Only a handful run past midnight, two of them around the clock. After 22:00, Huế eats more than it drinks coffee: bánh mì, bánh canh (thick noodle soup) and chè (sweet soup) are sold late into the night.25

Local tip: For coffee rather than food after midnight, Trốn Café at 22A Điện Biên Phủ is open until 03:00; for a late bánh mì, O Tho at 14 Trần Cao Vân serves until 04:00.2

An Cựu and the campus streets

An Cựu & Trường An has the most late cafés, ahead of Lê Lợi & Vĩnh Ninh. It is a university district: Huế's schools of Economics at 99 Hồ Đắc Di, Law at 20 Võ Văn Kiệt and Foreign Languages at 57 Nguyễn Khoa Chiêm are all in An Cựu.4 CB plus cafe & milktea, at 50 Hồ Đắc Di, runs 06:00–22:30.

Phan Chu Trinh has three, An Garden - Coffee & Bakery at number 98, MooD kafe at 170 and Cafe Nhiên at 188, all closing at 22:00. On Phan Bội Châu, Lagim BBQ & COFFEE at 272 serves until 22:30, as does NGÂM cà phê at 14 Hàm Nghi. Trốn Café at 22A Điện Biên Phủ is open until 03:00, later than any Huế café apart from the two that never close.

Phố Tây and the streets around it

Phố Tây, the "Western quarter", became a walking street on 29 September 2017. Phạm Ngũ Lão (215 m), Chu Văn An (350 m) and Võ Thị Sáu (480 m), a little over 1 km in all, were closed to traffic from 18:00 to 02:00 on Fridays and Saturdays and from 18:00 to midnight on Sundays.3

The district's late cafés stay open nearly as long. OLD MONEY cafe & cocktails, at 26/64 Nguyễn Công Trứ, and Trốn cafe, at 21 Lê Quý Đôn, close at 00:00; so does View Cafe at 37 Bến Nghé, which opens at 06:30. Hangout Coffee & Bar, at 48 Nguyễn Tri Phương, closes at 23:45 and Zone 7 Coffee & Restaurant, at 01 Phong Châu, at 23:00.

Evening-only cafés and the Citadel

Some cafés only start in the afternoon or evening. Be cà phê, on Nguyễn Như Chương in Vỹ Dạ, opens 19:00–23:00, and Kem Flan and Tra That both run 15:00–22:00. Around Lê Lợi, ChocoHouse at 20A Nguyễn Tri Phương and Soleil House at 33 Lý Thường Kiệt stay open until 23:00, as does Nook Cafe & Bar, a bakery with brunch that opens at 08:00. Café Gem at 25 Lê Lợi does not close at all.

Inside the Citadel, Lico Tea at 01 Nguyễn Trãi is open 24 hours; the rest close by 22:30. Fika Kafe at 1 Tuệ Tĩnh, son.studio at 115 Lê Huân and Bee Coffee on Mai Thúc Loan close at 22:30; Afternoon Coffee and Cà phê muối, both on Đặng Thái Thân, and CODO Coffee at 12 Ngô Đức Kế close at 22:00.

After the cafés close

Bánh Mì Trường Tiền O Tho, at 14 Trần Cao Vân, is probably Huế's best-known bánh mì shop, open 16:00–04:00 with loaves at 10,000–25,000 ₫ as of 2024.2 On Hàn Thuyên, bánh canh stalls serve from early afternoon until late at night, at about 20,000 ₫ a bowl.2

VnExpress's 2023 guide ends the day with Huế chè at 15,000–20,000 ₫ a cup and points to Đông Ba market for late food at 10,000–30,000 ₫.5 The city is adding more to its evenings: in April 2026 it was studying a 4.2-hectare Trường Tiền night street spanning both banks and the bridge, planned for weekend evenings, while the Hai Bà Trưng walking street stages water and land puppetry.6
