Brunch cafés in Bali

Smoothie bowls, breakfast plates and early openings from Canggu to Uluwatu.

In 2023 Harper's Bazaar Singapore called Canggu arguably Bali's hippest beachside district and noted that many of its brunch places offer extensive plant-based menus. Crate Cafe on Jalan Canggu Padang Linjong, open since 2014, was described as a long-standing favorite with Canggu's digital nomads.1

Away from the brunch rooms, a cheap meal means a warung: small family-run warung are the budget option for street food, and mixed rice with side dishes is called nasi campur Bali, or simply nasi Bali.2 Canggu has the most brunch cafés, followed by Uluwatu and Sanur, then Seminyak and Ubud.

Local tip: Crate Cafe opens at 06:00 and draws queues, so go early, and read the bottom of the menu to see whether prices already include the service charge and the 10% tax.

Smoothie bowls, breakfast plates and what they cost

At Crate, Eatbook listed the Hipstar smoothie bowl and the Breakkie Plate at Rp65,000 each in June 2023, with coffee from Rp30,000 and fresh juices at Rp40,000, served in an open-air room of vintage crates and wooden tables.3 The same review warned of long queues and advised arriving early.3

For 2026 prices, a guide to Ubud cafés published that April put smoothie bowls at Rp60,000 to 95,000, avocado toast or eggs benedict at Rp60,000 to 110,000, and pancakes or a full brunch plate at Rp70,000 to 150,000.4 In Seminyak, Revolver Espresso's breakfast burrito cost Rp120,000 in October 2025.5

Where Bali's brunch cafés are

Canggu's brunch cafés gather around Jalan Padang Linjong and Jalan Pantai Batu Bolong. Rise and Shine Cafe at 71 Jalan Padang Linjong opens 07:00–15:00; Harper's Bazaar picked out its Gimme Green smoothie of avocado, banana, spinach and coconut water, and its house blend of Colombian, Brazilian and Indonesian beans.1 The Dog House Cafe is at 17a Jalan Tanah Barak and Oka's Bakery & Cafe at 27a Jalan Pantai Batu Bolong.

On the Bukit, The Mango Tree Cafe on Jalan Labuan Sait opens 06:30–22:00 and Zubi 07:00–23:00, while Tarabelle Donuts at 77 Jalan Raya Uluwatu closes on Mondays. In Seminyak, Rise and Shine has a second branch at 42 Jalan Bumbak Dauh, Vinyl Coffee Bar at 69 Jalan Umalas Tunon opens at 06:00, and Umalas Breakfast Club on Jalan Dukuh Indah runs 07:00–15:00 except Sundays.

Two of Ubud's brunch cafés share Jalan Sri Wedari: Muse Cafe & Art and Ginger Flowers (08:00–16:00). Ivy Cafe on Jalan Raya Pengosekan serves 07:00–23:00. Sanur has The Owl at 50 Danau Tamblingan, Blend Cafe Sanur at 48 Jalan Pungutan and The Coffee House, which opens at 06:00.

Tax, service charge and the final bill

Two charges can be added to a sit-down café bill. The local restaurant tax, PB1, is typically 10%, and a service charge, generally 5% to 10%, is calculated on the bill before the tax.6 A Rp100,000 brunch therefore comes to Rp115,500 with 5% service, or Rp121,000 with 10%.

If you eat halal, ask before you order: Eatbook noted in 2023 that Crate Cafe is not halal-certified.3

More brunch in Seminyak, Legian and Nusa Dua

Seminyak also has Housewives On Fire on Jalan Mertanadi and Cafe Molka, open 07:00–21:00. The resort strips farther south have fewer brunch cafés: in Legian, Sidewalk at 8 Jalan Melasti runs 08:30–00:00, long after brunch, and In Laws Coffee is on Jalan Mertanadi I, while in Nusa Dua, Rehat Café opens 08:30–21:30.
