Porto's coffee bars multiplied as remote workers arrived. Barista Magazine counted six specialty coffee shops in the city in 2019 and, citing a Tasteology survey, more than 50 by October 2025.1 Wi-Fi is not limited to them: snack bars, pastry shops and student cafés offer it too.
The city also runs its own network. Since 2018 the Porto Digital association and the city council have offered public Wi-Fi in squares, streets and buses, and by September 2019 about 300,000 people had used it. In a survey of users, about one in five said they needed it for work or study.2
Local tip: Ask before opening a laptop at weekends. Some cafés that welcome remote workers midweek, such as Combi Coffee in Bonfim, don't on Saturdays and Sundays.
Where these cafés are: Bolhão & Santa Catarina (12), Cedofeita & Miguel Bombarda (11), Aliados & Clérigos (9), Bonfim (6), Marquês & Paranhos (5), Campanhã (4), Boavista (3), Aldoar & Ramalde (3), Miragaia & Massarelos (2), Foz do Douro (1), Matosinhos (1), Vila Nova de Gaia (1), Ribeira & Sé (1).

Bolhão & Santa Catarina has the most cafés with Wi-Fi, just ahead of Cedofeita & Miguel Bombarda and followed by Aliados & Clérigos, then Bonfim and Marquês & Paranhos. Near Bolhão, Coffee House Experience at 24 Rua de Alexandre Braga opens Monday to Saturday 08:00–21:00 and Sunday until 20:00. Canvas, a specialty coffee and brunch café at 389 Avenida de Rodrigues de Freitas, opens daily 08:00–17:00.
Two places are built for work. Veganada, a vegan cowork café at 153 Rua da Torrinha in Cedofeita, opens daily 09:30–18:30, and LOOK.Sharp at 41 Rua de Cimo de Vila combines a café with coworking, events and a shop, open daily 08:00–22:00.
Rules differ from one counter to the next. Combi Coffee began as a van in 2014 and later moved into a former garage in Bonfim, where it became known as a laptop-friendly café.3 It doubles as a coworking spot midweek, but laptops aren't welcome at weekends.4 It is at 29 Rua do Morgado de Mateus, open daily 09:00–17:00.
Fábrica Coffee Roasters offers Wi-Fi to customers who arrive with phones and computers at its café on Rua de José Falcão, while its Rua de Sá da Bandeira branch is mainly for takeaway.3 The José Falcão café, at number 122, opens daily 09:00–17:00. In Bonfim, Mesa 325 at 325 Avenida de Camilo opens on weekdays 08:30–18:00 and on Saturdays until 14:00.
The University of Porto runs two e-Learning Cafés: one on the Asprela campus, its largest, and one overlooking the Botanical Garden. Both have a wireless network and high-speed internet, lend laptops on request and have projection equipment.5 They are open only to current and former members of the academic community.5
Hours are long. The Asprela café opens 09:30–01:30 and the Botânico café 10:00–22:00, seven days a week.5 The Botânico café is at 1277 Rua do Campo Alegre.
Some Wi-Fi cafés keep long hours. Café Pereira at 11 Praça do Marquês de Pombal opens Monday to Saturday 07:30–00:00. In Campanhã, Foguete at 45 Rua de Justino Teixeira opens 06:00–00:00 and closes on Saturdays, and Café Brasil at 242 Rua da Madeira opens at 06:00 on weekdays.
Pastry shops count too. Confeitaria Belo Mundo at 542 Rua de Santa Catarina has Wi-Fi and opens Monday to Saturday 08:00–20:00, and in Matosinhos, Confeitaria Henrique Carvalho at 44 Rua Dom Nuno Álvares Pereira opens on weekdays at 06:30.
Often, but rules vary. Combi Coffee in Bonfim doubles as a coworking spot midweek but doesn't welcome laptops at weekends. Fábrica Coffee Roasters on Rua de José Falcão offers Wi-Fi to customers with computers. Veganada on Rua da Torrinha is a cowork café, and LOOK.Sharp on Rua de Cimo de Vila combines a café with coworking, open daily until 22:00.
Bolhão & Santa Catarina leads, with Cedofeita & Miguel Bombarda close behind, followed by Aliados & Clérigos, then Bonfim and Marquês & Paranhos. Examples include Coffee House Experience on Rua de Alexandre Braga, Veganada on Rua da Torrinha and Combi Coffee on Rua do Morgado de Mateus.
Only current and former members of the University of Porto's academic community. The two cafés, on the Asprela campus and overlooking the Botanical Garden, have wireless and high-speed internet and lend laptops on request. Asprela opens 09:30–01:30 and Botânico 10:00–22:00, seven days a week.
Free listings are free for good. A featured page gives you photos, a menu and your own URL, in your café's own design, for less than a coffee a day.
